Vrije Walvis was born from a simple idea: hospitality that feels personal. The stool that fits just right, the glass at the perfect chill, the bartender who remembers your name. Our selection follows the seasons — local craft beers, bright aquavits, characterful jenevers, and the occasional experiment like tasting flights or one-night pours.

We’re also a room for makers. Each month we open our walls to artists, photographers, illustrators, and tattooers. No grand stage — just close-up encounters: a short talk, a story behind the work, a conversation that lingers.

Our roots are Amsterdam, with windows open to the world. You’ll taste the city in our beers and see it in the details — line art inspired by compasses, waves, and whales. We keep a gentle pace. The “Vrije” in Vrije Walvis means you’re free to exhale.

Practically, we keep things simple: a curated selection rather than a sprawling menu. Rotating beers, jenever and aquavit with a Nordic wink, and small bites designed to follow the glass.
